Terminology

In order that you fully understand the relevance of each section of the Health Matters programme please read the following information which gives a broad overview of the current knowledge and best practice.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic Chiropractic specialises in the relief of the musculoskeletal symptoms caused by structural misalignments of the bones and joints. Through subtle adjustments of the bones of your body, chiropractic aims to relieve pain and discomfort, increase mobility and provide a route to better health. Structural misalignment can impinge on the function of the brain and spinal cord which is the communication super highway which is relied upon to deliver the right information to the right places at the right times. Your whole function and health depends upon this system. When you are not in correct alignment or have what chiropractors refer to as a Subluxation, your body has to compensate for that error. If you are subluxated your function is being limited in some way and you are not in the best of health. Being in good health is not just being free of symptoms of disease but having a feeling of vitality and vigour.

Nutrition

Nutrition At Health Matters we understand that you are in fact, what you eat. We are constantly repairing and renewing our cells on a minute by minute basis and the only way we gain the materials is via our mouth. Food acts as fuel to enable us to function but is also a precursor to our hormone levels, our neurotransmitors, our inflammatory and immune responses and even our mental health. At Health Matters we don’t count calories, we don’t give points to stick to. We don’t allow you to eat all the foods you are used to. We change your attitude to food and alter your diet to suit your metabolic profile, age, environment and regime needs. You will be asked to make dramatic changes in order to dramatically change your health. But as with the rest of the programme you are fully supported throughout what can be a challenging but very rewarding time.

Nutrition is not just for weight loss it’s for life!

Strength and Conditioning

WHO’s definition of health:

" A state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

Strength & conditioning You as an animal developed to be physical. Our larger brain and greater intelligence gave us greater control over an ever expanding movement repertoire. Our bodies have evolved to exercise. A sedentary lifestyle mixed with other risks is potent enough to accelerate the development of chronic disease, accentuate severity and promote aging. In Scotland it has recently been reported that age expectancy is now decreasing. We are dying younger! Therefore at HEALTH MATTERS we use a personal strength and conditioning exercise regime to optimise your physical condition. David will ascertain your starting point and build in a cumulative way the amount and nature of your exercise. He will build the core first whilst improving cardiovascular response and ability. As you gain strength, stamina and flexibility the programme alters to fine tune you for your personal goals, from golf to marathons. Watch your metabolic age decrease as you improve muscle tone, strength, balance, improve heart and lung capacity and improve your recovery times. You’ll look fabulous too. With David in attendance when you begin your physical work you also reduce the risk of injury through over use or incorrect use of your body or any equipment used. It’s far safer to be in qualified hands and if you are already fit and want to increase performance, then David is on hand to bring you the latest in exercise science.

IgG Blood Test from York Laboratories

What’s an IgG blood test?

One of the most important factors of the Health Matters Programme is the IgG blood test. It is becoming more apparent that certain foods can affect certain individuals in a negative fashion. Some seemingly ‘healthy choices’ may create an immune response in your body and can be the cause of a myriad of symptoms such as headache, depression, bloating to name but a few. At Health Matters we take the guess work away with a comprehensive IgG blood test. This test measures your immune response to commonly used foods and only after we have received your results will your personal diet plan be created.
